Fashion Show: Your Ultimate Collection

As they say it on the hit reality TV show Project Runway, “In fashion one day you’re in and the next day you’re out.” Fashion trends change every season. What is in right now, like a satchel bag, might be considered a fashion faux pas next season.  And what better way to know what it is in the runways of the fashion capitals of the world, like in Paris, New York, London, Milan and Tokyo than see it in an actual fashion show. A designer showcase his collection in a show where every fashion savvy individuals, fashionista’s and fashion magazine editors get to see a glimpse of what he has to offer in the fashion world. A great show ends with people in awe of his creations and they will eventually buy his clothes.

The first fashion show took place in the Paris couture houses during the 1880’s. It is exclusive for the crème de la crème of the society but in this century, that isn’t the case. In today’s modern time, everyone can enjoy fashion whether you’re a simple girl living in a small town or a full-blooded fashionista walking in the streets of Paris wearing all designer items from head to toe. Fashion is universal and it is for everybody to enjoy. One of the greatest things that we have right now is the freedom of expression, though some of us might look at fashion differently and sometimes mock it but to those who are avid followers of it, they take fashion very seriously. Mainly because it’s their avenue to express who they are and what they are. In fashion, you can be what you want to be, wear what you want to wear but most of all, you can be yourself. Freedom of expression is very important since it defines us for who we are. Our clothes tell others more about who we are since we can never deny it that first impression last. In our material world, we are judge by what we look like, how we present ourselves and what we are wearing. It isn’t dumb and stupid that you dress up and express yourself through fashion. We are merely the painters and tailors of our own lives. Fashion isn’t definite but we define it.

Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour once said, “Fashion isn’t about looking backward, it’s always about looking forward.” And that is the use of a fashion show, it simply dictates us what is in and what is out. It is very important in the fashion world because that it keeps the fashion industry alive. Without people buying their creation, it is pointless. But it doesn’t really mean that you follow all the trends every season, you just have to be creative, artistic and just be yourself and you can make your ultimate collection.

Fashion Statement: An Expression of Uniqueness

As the saying goes by Margaret Mead, “Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” We, humans, being in the category Homo sapiens, have something in common. We have the same physical attributes, we have a soul, and we have a spirit. What makes us different from other species gives us a common ground with our species. Our earliest counterparts had already the ability to walk upright and have evolved larger and more complex brains. We have the ability to speak and learn language and the ability to express ourselves in different forms of art. One of which is in our clothing. We make it our fashion statement. We also feel compassion for others and have a sense of religion, a concept of worship to a higher being, transcending the physical and the emotional to the spiritual.

Throughout time, it has been part of humanity to express oneself and to be different in a good way from others of the same kind. It has been part of human history to be unique, to stand out from the rest. Others who were born ahead of us marked history not just because of their significant contributions to humanity but on also how they adorned themselves in such feat. Take for example Solomon, the wisest man in the world. Jesus Christ, Himself, described him as “not dressed as beautifully as the lilies amidst in all his glory.” Cleopatra, who was known to the queen of Alexandria, the fashion capital during the first century BCE, adorned herself with ready to eat earrings! Talk about dual purpose. But that was her fashion statement and so as beings of the same kind, although different time, we struggle hard to be unique.

We may like it or not but we are shaped by our environment. Music, art, language, and even technology are some forms we used to express ourselves, to make known to the world our inventive spirit. Day by day, we have a choice to make. Choices range from what clothes to wear, shoes to put on, color of the tie, earrings to ornament our ears, to put on make up or not, so on and so forth. The lifestyles we choose, the sports we play, the places we go, and the people we are with affect our decisions that ultimately make up our fashion statement. We wear different clothes for different occasions. We event mix and match not just to suit our own apparel but also to compliment our mate, to fit in yet be unique from our peers. The gadgets we choose that fit our occupations, that fit our lifestyle, makes them part of our uniqueness, our sense of being an individual. Our choices now do not only determine our future, they determine who we are as a person today, fitting in but standing out.

Fashion Show: What’s In and What Not

Fashion may have a lot of meanings according to different kinds of people. The typical meaning of fashion to a lot of people is that it is what clothes and accessories are in today and those that are not. People most especially women get influenced by the latest and newest fashion show held by the most famous fashion designers in the world.  Models are arranged on how they go out the runway according to the designers preference and what story he or she would like to portray with his collection. It is up to the audience to decipher the meaning of his or her creation.

In a fashion show, there is a runway wherein models both men and women showcase the designers newest collection for that particular season. The most famous ones are the summer collection or spring collection and the winter collection or the fall collection. Each collection has its own unique styles and designs that make it stand out and differ from the rest. But there is also a fashion show that is done by not so famous designers or those that have just started into the fashion making business. These shows also influence the fashion taste of most of the people.

Aside from the typical fashion show where models catwalk the designer clothes in the runway, there is also a different form of fashion show like when models just hold still in a certain area and in a certain position and the audience are one ones who will roam around and look at the different clothes worn by those models.

There are also competitions wherein they look for the next top designer from a pool of competitors. Each competitor will need to tailor his or her own design and showcase it in a fashion show. By the end of the contest, whoever is left standing and whoever wins the judges’ hearts with their designs will be named the winner. Another competition would be looking for the next top model by judging them on how they carry themselves and the clothes they wear in the runway of a designer’s fashion show.

But here is a good thing about fashion. You can make your own bold statement. Just because that is the emerging trend, doesn’t mean that are obliged to follow them. You can choose the style of your choice may it be in line with the trend or not. What matters most is that you make it look good on you by holding that chin up and wear it with confidence.

So if you want to know more on the latest trends and fashion in the world, you don’t need to go and see a real fashion show personally. You can see it in the television and at your own comfort!
